Mole Pest Control Shropshire - Vermin - Mr Mole Man - Vermin Control - Mole Catcher Prices - Shrewsbury - UK

Are Moles Really Vermin and Do They Need To Be Killed?

I recently received an email from someone who had been viewing my website, stating how shocked and appalled they were that mole catchers existed in this country, and how they couldn’t understand why we do what we do.

To those people who have never enquired about real moles or come to face to face with the damage and destruction they cause, their knowledge of these vicious creatures extends to rosy portrayals of them in films and cartoons.

Moles are pests

But this furry, friendly image of moles is wrong. They are vermin.

They have been labelled as such by countless countryside organisations, farmers, landowners and scientists. They are a member of the insectivore family, and if we’re not careful, they will invade farms and gardens and become a devastating infestation.

They can ruin livelihoods, and they can be a danger to other animals and to humans.

Why we catch and kill them

As a professional, trained mole catcher, I make sure to catch moles in the most humane way possible.

Unfortunately, that does mean killing them. But I can assure you it’s the best solution, and the quickest, most painless death.

Catching a mole and setting it free isn’t effective. They will travel miles and miles to return to their old tunnels if they have been productive there.

As a qualified and experienced mole catcher, I’ve tried and tested many different methods to ensure my customers can enjoy a totally mole free garden after they have called me.

Deterrents simply do not work and home remedies and repellants are often dangerous to wildlife, poisoning and hurting both moles and other animals without killing them.

And there are no guarantees that a trap to catch a mole alive won’t actually incapacitate and harm a mole, causing unnecessary suffering.

Why I take pictures

I take pictures of the moles we catch to show that we operate in an entirely humane way. There are many cowboy mole catchers out there who don’t have a clue what they are doing. As a result, they’ll try and do whatever they can to get rid of moles from a garden or field.

This could mean using poison, (which is illegal), fumigating tunnels, and even setting fires underneath your garden. This is not safe, it’s not right, and it’s inhumane.

With the specific traps we use, moles do not suffer. They don’t feel any pain. In fact, they don’t know what’s hit them. It’s quick and painless.

Moles - Garden Moles - Mr Mole Man - Pest Control Moles - Mole Repellent - Vermin Control - Garden Mole Removal - Getting Rid of Moles - Myddle - UK

I was called to this garden in Myddle which was showing early signs of mole activity down the length of the drive and naturally the owner wanted the pestilence curtailed. Some of the mole hills ran along a rock escarpment, which made trap placement difficult, so after careful consideration, the mole traps were set along the drive. On checking the claw mole traps yesterday I have recorded a catch of one mole with no further signs of activity.

Make a Mole Your Business - Mr Mole Man - Mole Pest Control in Shropshire - Pests - Garden Mole Control - Vermin Control - Getting Rid of Moles in Shropshire - Mole Elimination

If you ever read the book "The Story of The Little Mole Who Knew It Was None Of His Business", by Werner Holzwarth and Wolf Erlbruch, you'll know that the mole of the story has to go along and question various different animals to find out who pooed on his head.

But why did the mole think that each of these animals could be responsible for such an atrocity in the first place? Well, that's because the mole knew they weren't his friends. Because the mole knew he had upset each of the animals in one way or another.

The dove and the hare had both lost their homes because of the mole. The deep tunnels that he had dug collapsed and crushed the hole which the hare was living in. The cave ins disturbed the roots of a tree where the dove's nest was so much, that the tree had to be cut down.

The goat, the cow and the pig all had a grudge to bare against the mole because his tunnelling and digging had disturbed all the crops and grains which were going to feed each of them. The goat, the cow and the pig were all going hungry because of the mole, and the pig was even more annoyed because the mole was shifting around the mud and earth that the pigs should be playing in!

The horse meanwhile, was very angry at the mole, because he had dug up the paddock which the horse and his rider used to practice in. With lots of dangerous mole hills and holes, the horse hadn't been allowed out to perform in weeks.

But it was the culprit of the story who the mole had caused the biggest problems for. (SPOILER ALERT!) It was the dog who pooed on the mole's head, because the mole had ruined his whole garden, and everywhere he could play outside. The dog could no longer play catch without tripping over a mole hill, and while he was chasing a squirrel in the garden, he fell over and twisted his leg.

The dog was not happy, so he got his revenge on the mole.

Would you want to poo on the mole's head to get your own back, or would you just get the best mole catcher in the country to come out and help? Well if you live in the Shropshire area, then you're in luck! Mr. Mole Man is here to save the day.

Moles Removed from Shropshire Campsite Prior to May Bank Holiday Weekend - Mr Mole Man - Mole Pest Control in Shropshire - Mole Catcher - Getting Rid of Moles in Shropshire - Garden Mole Control

I was called in to remove the moles which were showing early signs of activity, and the owners didn't want it to escalate. I assessed the problem setting claw mole traps where I thought appropriate to catch.

On returning this week to check the traps, I had successfully removed three moles in those affected areas, which pleased the owners in the run up to the busy bank holiday.

When caravans are being towed over grass the last thing you need is subterranean earthworks, especially if it has been raining.

If you own a campsite in Shropshire and would like your mole infestation to be controlled then contact us today.

Victor Mole Trap Plunger - Mr Mole Man - Mole Pest Control in Shropshire - Mole Catcher - Getting Rid of Moles in Shropshire

The Victor Mole Trap Plunger, Mr Mole Man does not use this type of trap, but came across one recently.

These traps all have a common theme in that they are activated by a trigger plate, and then the mole is caught. After careful examination I felt that the trigger plate wasn't sensitive enough, and the sheer weight would make it impractical when setting 30 plus traps in one location.

I would always recommend the claw trap as my first choice, depending to a certain extent on where the traps are to be cited.

Four Moles Caught in Rowton, Shropshire - Mr Mole Man - Mole Pest Control for Shropshire - Mole Catcher

I was called to a property in Rowton Shropshire to control the mole infestation in their horse paddocks, well aware of the danger that subterranean workings can cause. After setting the traps, we came back to check them this week, and have taken four moles from the land. The traps were reset and will be checked again soon.

Taking 2 breeding pairs from the land, means that the mole population has been reduced by a maximum of 18 moles.

Three Moles Trapped in Shropshire Garden Lawn - Mr Mole Man - Mole Catcher - Getting Rid of Moles in Shropshire - Garden Mole Control

This lawn was showing the signs of established mole activity, even the mowers weekly charge wasn't stopping them. That's where Mr Mole Man was called in, one was caught on the day of setting the traps, and one checking the traps today, and further three moles have been caught. The difference in activity is very noticeable and I knew before checking the traps that success was in the air.

Mole Hills on your Land - Mr Mole Man - Mole Pest Control in Shropshire - Mole Catcher

Mole hills can become established very quickly on your land. You might think that having only a couple of mole hills isn't a problem. A mole however can travel at 4 metres per hour working on a 4 hour shift rotation everyday. When a worm drops into the moles tunnel it doesn't burrow through, so the tunnels act as a food source.

Have that mole infestation on your land controlled, contact Mr Mole Man today.

How to Set a No Mol Mole Trap - Mr Mole Man - Mole Pest Control in Shropshire - Getting Rid of Moles in Shropshire

This video gives a detailed description of how to set the No Mol mole trap, which is ideal for setting around tree roots and walls. As it says in the video it is essential to practice setting before you are out in the field as it can prove tricky at first.

Carnivorous Moles - Mr Mole Man - Mole Pest Control in Shropshire - Garden Mole Control

Moles do eat other moles that have been caught in the claw trap, and this is why Strychnine was so effective to control Talpa europaea in the British Isles. Here we see an exterminated mole which has been canibalised by another mole using the same tunnel system.
